Manchester United take on German outfit Schalke 04 tonight in the Champions League semi-finals.

It was against German opposition that a defining moment in United's history was witnessed, the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 1999. Since then, Alex Ferguson's side have come up against a German side on six occasions, with mixed results.
