Manchester United fans have not had much to shout about this season but there’s been plenty to shout at – more often than not, it’s the performances of Memphis Depay.

The Dutch winger has endured a difficult first season at Old Trafford, with many supporters questioning his commitment and level of discipline.

However, having replaced club captain Wayne Rooney in the starting line-up for tonight’s Europa League round-of-32 first leg at FC Midtjylland, he may have gone some way towards changing a few fans' opinions.

Depay, waiting patiently in the area for Jesse Lingard’s cross, somehow managed to slip up just as the ball was played into the box.

As the ball fell towards him, it looked as though the chance was gone, only for the winger to trap the ball, rise onto his feet, play it onto his right foot and tap home.

Nevertheless, he can’t seem to cut a break with Twitter users, who remain unconvinced over United’s £25million signing.

Here’s just some of the social media reaction…

It looks like Memphis will have to do a lot more than simply score against Midtjylland to win people round...
