Monaco 0 Arsenal 2: 'We came here and have nearly done it but that seems to be the case every year,' concedes Aaron Ramsey

Gunners knocked out after gallant display

Goalscorer Aaron Ramsey was frustrated that Arsenal's quest to overturn a second-leg deficit in the Champions League again proved fruitless after they were knocked out of the competition tonight despite a 2-0 win at Monaco.

Arsenal battled to a victory at the Stade Louis II thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Ramsey but the victory was not enough to keep them in the tournament following their 3-1 home defeat in the first leg.

"We have always played Bayern Munich, Barcelona, teams like that and no disrespect to Monaco but we thought we had a really good opportunity of qualifying and we gave ourselves a tough test from the first game," Ramsey said.

"We came here and have nearly done it but that seems to be the case every year.

"We have some great quality in this team and we will stick by each other and take the positives from this. We still have the FA Cup to go and I'm sure there will be plenty more twists and turns in the Premiership so we'll have to keep going."
