Real Madrid held on to take victory in their Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich after Karim Benzema's close range goal.

Who were the stand out men on a crucial clash of the titans at the Bernabeu stadium and who topped the ratings in this massive European match up?

Benzema netted the only goal of the night with a tap in after good work down the left from Fabio Coentrao. Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria both found space in the Bayern box but squandered good chances in the first half.

Xabi Alsono was a rock in the heart of Madrid's engine room and broke up play well, alongside ex-Tottenham star Luka Modric.

Pep Guardiola's side never really fashioned a clear opening on goal in the match and will need more out of their attacking stars next Tuesday night in the return leg.
