Real Madrid have been given hope that they still may be able to tempt Internazionale to sell Brazilian wing-back Maicon.

The two clubs have so far been unable to agree a fee for the 28-year-old defender, but agent Antonio Caliendo believes that a deal can still be reached in the near future.

He told Calciomercato.it: “For the moment there is a difference between offer and demand. The sooner the situation is resolved, the better it is.

“The ribbon has to be cut by both presidents. If he does leave Inter then Real Madrid is the likely possibility.

“I think it will not be difficult for both presidents to reach an agreement.”

Spain striker David Villa is determined to be top scorer at the World Cup finals, having already sealed a big-money move from Valencia to Barcelona.

The 28-year-old is expected to be a key figure as Spain aim to add World Cup glory to their European Championship success of two years ago, with Villa ready to show his class.

He told reporters: “It was vital for me to resolve my future.

“I am calm in a way I was not last year and this time around I'll be making news for what I do in training or in the matches, not for what is happening somewhere else.

“It would be great to be top scorer here because that would mean a lot of goals for the team.”
