Lyon continue to close on a historic fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title but needed a late Tiago goal to beat lowly Troyes 1-0.

The late header from the Portuguese international and former Chelsea player lifted Lyon 12 points clear of second-placed Bordeaux, who were due play Paris St-Germain later last night.

The Ligue's bottom club Ajaccio now need a miracle after going down 3-1 to a Sochaux team that is now almost safe. Guiranne N'Daw, Moumouni Dagano and Weldon scored for Ajaccio while Antonio Carlos scored for the Corsican side.

A Pierre-Alain Frau goal earned Lens a 1-0 win over second-bottom Metz despite the sending-off of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, while third-bottom Strasbourg were beaten 3-1 at Nice.

In-form Marseilles beat Nantes 3-1 but the meeting of Champions' League hopefuls Lille and Auxerre ended 1-1, as did the game between St Etienne and Monaco.

In the Netherlands, PSV Eindhoven will have to wait at least a week before their second successive Eredivisie title is confirmed after AZ Alkmaar v NAC Breda was postponed. Had second-placed AZ not beaten NAC then Guus Hiddink's side would have been the champions.

PSV moved 12 points clear on Saturday after winning 2-1 win at RBC Roosendaal.
