Van Gaal to leave Bayern in summer

Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal is to depart at the end of the season, the club said yesterday – news that will alert a number of Premier League sides.

The Dutchman's contract was due to expire next year but Munich have slipped to fifth in the Bundesliga and the two parties have agreed that he will now depart this summer.

"The original contract ending in 2012 is terminated," a joint statement read. "The reason is the different views on the strategic positioning of the club."
