Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has hit back at Fenerbahce fans who abused him and other black players during the Istanbul derby on Sunday.
The Galatasaray forward was subjected to monkey chants along with fellow Ivorian Emmanuel Eboue as his side lost 2-1. Bananas were also waved around by fans.
Releasing a statement on Galatasaray's official Facebook page, Drogba reminded Fenerbahce fans of the time his former club Chelsea beat their side and reminded them that Galatasaray had won the league ahead of their bitter rivals this season.
"You call me monkey but you cried when Chelsea beat Fenerbahce in 2008, you called me monkey but you jumped in front of your screen when I won the Champions League, you called me monkey but you got mad when I became champion with Galatasaray and the saddest thing is you called me monkey and forgot that you jumped my 'monkey' brother (who) scored twice yesterday...And you call yourself a true fan??"
Pierre Webo, the Cameroon international, scored both of Fener's goals.
It was yesterday confirmed that a Fener fan was killed on the way home from the game after he was attacked by a group reported to be Galatasaray fans.
