Arsenal injury news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could miss the rest of the season after slow recover from groin injury

Oxlade-Chamberlain will definitely miss the FA Cup semi-final with Reading this weekend but there are fears that he could not play again this season

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could play no further part in Arsenal's push for the FA Cup and Premier League double after continuing to struggle with his groin problem that has kept him sidelined since the FA Cup victory over Manchester United in March.

Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled up late-on in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford on 9 March, and has not featured for the Gunners since. The initial prognosis was that he could miss weeks rather than months, but his return has been slow and he is now in danger of missing the season run-in for the second straight campaign.

Arsene Wenger ruled him out of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Reading, and although he suggested the England midfielder could return to training by the end of next week, his participation in the Gunners’ run-in remains in doubt.

Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the final month of last season that not only meant he missed out on the FA Cup victory over Hull, but also impacted in his England chances at the World Cup having suffered a further knee injury during a warm-up game in Miami.

“It is in the balance,” said Wenger. “The inflammation has not completely cleared. He is on the way, building up and he might join in next week in full training and then we see. He is at least two weeks away.”
