Luis Suarez faces the prospect of a trip to Old Trafford in his first game back following the 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic after Liverpool were drawn against Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Suarez still has three more matches to wait until he can resume playing but will be available for the tie, which will take place on 24 or 25 September. Aston Villa were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur, while the holders Swansea City will begin their defence away at Birmingham City.
Everton needed extra time against Stevenage to book their third-round tie against Fulham, with Marouane Fellaini's 115th-minute goal eventually sparing their blushes. Luke Freeman gave the League One side the lead before Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Elsewhere, Villa eased past Rotherham thanks to goals from Andreas Weimann, Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph. In a rematch of the first-ever League Cup final in 1961, there was only ever one team in contention as Paul Lambert's side put successive Premier League defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool behind them.
Cardiff City followed up their shock victory over Manchester City on Sunday with a 2-0 defeat of League Two's bottom side Accrington. It took Malky Mackay's side just over an hour to break the deadlock through Nicky Maynard, with Rudy Gestede ensuring their progress with the second goal a minute later.
Stoke City almost suffered a scare against Walsall despite two first-half goals from Kenwyne Jones. It was the Trinidadian striker's first goals since scoring in an FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace back in January but, after Ashley Hemmings pulled one back just before the hour mark, they faced a nervy finale until Jones completed his hat-trick with six minutes to play.
Two-time League Cup semi-finalists Watford had a routine victory over Bournemouth at Vicarage Road. Watford had won 6-1 in the corresponding Championship fixture earlier this month, and an own goal Elliot Ward in the first-half and a second from Cristian Battocchio were enough to take Gianfranco Zola's team into a third-round tie with Norwich.
Nottingham Forest also needed extra time to see off fellow Championship side Millwall and they will face a trip to Burnley in the next round thanks to a winner from Jamal Lascelles.
