Christian Benteke labelled 'rubbish' by own fans after Liverpool exit FA Cup

The forward missed some excellent chances to score for Liverpool at Upton Park

Liverpool fans vented their frustration with striker Christian Benteke following their FA Cup replay exit to West Ham last night.

The Belgian striker played the full 120 minutes of the 2-1 extra-time defeat, however his greatest contribution was to fire straight at West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph when clean through.

The £32.5m summer signing also fired wide when the ball dropped to him in a central position just inside the box.

It was a performance not without endeavour but it meant a continuation of a frustrating campaign for Benteke who has seven goals in 31 appearances and has failed to score in his last 11 appearances.

Benteke will be wary of the need to show an improvement in form with fellow striker Roberto Firmino beginning to justify the £29m spent on him and main hit-man Daniel Sturridge making his long awaited return from injury last night.

However, it might already be too late according to many Liverpool fans who slated Benteke's performance last night...

Liverpool's next match is away against bottom of the league Aston Villa - Benteke's former club.
