Alberto Moreno believes his Liverpool team-mates have already overcome an important psychological hurdle in adjusting to a future life without captain Steven Gerrard.

The veteran midfielder, who will quit Anfield for LA Galaxy at the end of the season, has been absent due to a hamstring injury since early February.

He has resumed training but is doubtful for today’s FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn Rovers at Anfield.

Moreno (right) said he “idolises” Gerrard and wants to provide the talismanic skipper with a fitting end to his Liverpool career with an FA Cup final appearance on his 35th birthday.

But the left-back now knows the club can cope with the departure of its icon. The Spaniard said: “We’ve proved that we can carry on without him. We’ve been winning matches.

“He was one of my idols growing up. This opportunity to play alongside him is something you are never going to forget.

“Within this Liverpool squad there are some top players to replace even the likes of Steven.”
