Mesut Özil knows how to celebrate an FA Cup success. After all, he’s getting quite used to it, having won the prestigious trophy in both season since joining Arsenal. So how did the World Cup winner mark the special occasion on Sunday night? He fell asleep cuddling his dog on a plane.
The 26-year-old took part in the Gunners’ FA Cup victory parade on Sunday as the squad made their way on an open-top bus through the streets of Islington, but he was soon jetting off back to Germany for some catch-up time with his family.
A picture was posted on Özil’s Instagram page showing the midfielder cuddled up to his Pug ‘Balboa’, who can be seen to have ‘Ganster’ written his lead.
Having finished his duties with Arsenal for the year, Özil can’t relax just yet as he has been included in Germany’s squad for the international friendly with the United States and the Euro qualifier in Gibraltar later this month.
Özil wasn’t the only Arsenal player to be posting pictures with canine interest this week, as on-loan forward Lukas Podolski revealed his dog – hilariously named ‘Dogolski’ – was ready for the final Inter Milan game of the season.
The chocolate Labrador was kitted out in his own Inter Milan shirt, with the Germany international including the caption: “#dogolski ready for last game today... #love #mydog #inter #poldi #support #fan”
Podolski’s future remains up in the air at the Emirates with the 29-year-old due to return to the club during the off-season to discuss whether he remains part of Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans.
