Noel Gallagher: Manchester City win on penalties perfectly predicted by former Oasis guitarist

The singer-songwriter even claimed it would be Yaya Toure that scored the decisive spot-kick

He was already rock royalty, but following yesterday's Capital One Cup final Noel Gallagher is the prediction king as well.

The former Oasis guitarist correctly predicted that his beloved Manchester City would beat Liverpool on penalties at Wembley and that Yaya Toure would score the decisive spot-kick - which is exactly what happened.

Prior to the match, the High Flying Birds frontman said: "I think it's going to be mega close and I'm not very optimistic. But I'm going to say we'll win on penalties."

Asked who would score the winning penalty, Noel paused before saying: "Yaya. Roll it in."

The prediction came eerily true, with Manchester City drawing 1-1 with Liverpool following goals from first Fernandinho and then Philippe Coutinho. When the final couldn't be settled in extra-time, it went to penalties.

The real hero in the shoot-out that followed the 120 minutes of football was understudy Man City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who saved three spot-kicks. But it fell to Yaya Toure to settle it, with the Ivorian shooting low into the corner to win Manchester City the trophy.

After the match, Noel was involved in a Champagne Supernova moment as he celebrated with Toure and the victorious Manchester City team in their dressing room.

In an interview with Manchester City, Noel said that despite his correct prediction, it wasn't that way he would have Masterplanned it: "I did call it. I wish it hadn't of been penalties though. They're great when you win them, but tough for Liverpool though."
