Roberto Soldado produced a contender for miss of the season during last night's FA Cup replay.

The Tottenham striker was just six yards out when the ball was played across to him but he somehow managed to get under it and hit the bar when it was much easier to find the back of the net.

The Spaniard can take solace that he laid on two goals as Spurs came from two down against Burnley to advance to the fourth round with a 4-2 win.

His manager has been rallying around him.

"In football you don't need to apologise, because we are sorry for him because I think he deserved a goal," said Mauricio Pochettino.

"But in football the actions, maybe it's difficult to explain, but I am happy with his performance and his attitude on the pitch."

Andros Townsend has also offered his support.

"It was unlucky. Robbie is a fantastic character. He picked himself up, dusted himself down and put a great ball in for Danny in the second half," said the winger.

"We have seen in Spain that he is fantastic striker. He just needs the service and the game time. I am sure that once he gets one or two, the goals will start flowing."

Soldado held his hands up after the match, taking to Twitter to call his miss "incredible".

However, that hasn't stopped others using the social media platform to mock the striker.

Soldado is now without a goal in five, and has just four for the season despite 24 appearances.
