Tottenham vs Brighton: Harry Kane hopes for Premier League chance after adding to impressive tally in League Cup victory

Kane scored in the 2-0 win over the Seagulls and hopes he will be kept in the starting line-up for the weekend clash with Aston Villa

Harry Kane notched his seventh goal of the season as Tottenham saw off Brighton in the Capital One Cup and now he wants to take his form into the Premier League.

The 21-year-old wrapped up the 2-0 fourth round victory over the Seagulls after substitute Erik Lamela had opened the scoring and Kane has now moved further clear as Tottenham's top goalscorer this season.

Having bagged a Europa League hat-trick last week, the England Under-21 international was a surprise omission for Sunday's defeat to Newcastle - with Spurs now paired with the Magpies in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

Kane returned to the team and the scoresheet with another impressive display on Wednesday night, but will have to continue to fight with the more established duo of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor for a place in Mauricio Pochettino's side at Aston Villa this weekend.

"It is always good," Kane told SpursTV when asked about adding to his tally for the campaign.

"I'm always happy to be scoring and getting those goals inside the box, those strikers' goals, is always good.

"It (the number of goals) is a good return but I'm concentrating on the next game now and hopefully I will get some minutes and get some goals.

"These are the sort of games I want to be scoring in and getting myself out there, I always enjoy playing - I just want to keep playing and keep scoring."

Pochettino insisted after the game that Kane will have to continue to be patient as he waits for his maiden league start of the season.

"He shares with another striker like Adebayor or Soldado the minutes in the official games," the Argentinian said.

"We need to understand that we are in different competitions. You demand me to play Harry Kane in every game - he played today. Soldado and Harry Kane are different players. We are in a lot of competitions."

Brighton went into the game having not won a match since their third-round success against Burton and with manager Sami Hyypia starting to come under scrutiny.

But the ex-Liverpool defender was pleased with his team's display and believes a turnaround in Championship form is just around the corner.

"We defended well in most situations," he said.

"But of course you can always look at how you've conceded and ask could we have done better? But Tottenham are a good side, with good individual players and both goals were good attacking moves.

"We can take a lot of positives from this game and learn from it. If everyone puts in that amount of effort that we showed when we were not in possession, we will start to win games instead of drawing them."
