As Wolves celebrated their Championship win over Blackburn yesterday, manager Kenny Jackett confirmed they had agreed a fee with Arsenal for striker Benik Afobe, who has scored 19 goals on loan with League One side MK Dons this season.

“He’s undergoing a medical,” said Jackett. “We’re working towards concluding that early next week.

“I’ve watched him come through at Arsenal and watched his progress and we feel at 21 he fits into the bracket we’re looking for that can improve us. He has a good goalscoring record in League One and he’s ready now at this stage to step up to try the challenge of Championship football.”

Jackett was also full of praise for Dave Edwards after the midfielder scored the winner at Ewood Park.

Edwards struck three minutes into the second half with a low shot from 20 yards as Wolves made it four league wins from five and moved to within a point of the top six.

“I think he [Edwards] is playing as well now as he ever has and he’s had some very good spells,” said Jackett.

As Blackburn slumped to a fourth defeat in their last six Championship outings, Rovers manager Gary Bowyer was “majorly disappointed” as they now sit six points adrift of the play-off places.

“We’ve spoken about being aware of the counter-attack from Wolves and we didn’t defend it well enough,” he said.
