Callum Styles: 16-year-old Bury striker becomes English football's first player to be born in 21st century

The youngster, born on 28 March 2000, made his debut at just 16 years and 41 days old

Bury striker Callum Styles has become the first player born in the 21st century to feature in the Football League.

The teenager replaced Anthony Dudley in the 75th minute of the Shakers' 3-2 win over Southend on Sunday aged just 16 years and 41 days, having been born on 28 March 2000, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported the English National Football Archive (ENFA) had confirmed no other player born since the Millennium has appeared for a league club in a senior match.

Styles, who still plays for Bury's Under-16 side, failed to become the club's youngest-ever player though, with their record held by Jimmy Kerr at 16 years and 15 days.

This month, West Brom striker Jonathan Leko became the first player born in 1999 to start a Barclays Premier League game when he was given a full debut in the Baggies' 3-0 defeat to West Ham.
