Championship round-up: Danny Ings fires Burnley into second as Derby slip up at home


Two goals from Danny Ings lifted Burnley back up the table into second place with a 3-2 win at home to Huddersfield. The striker has now scored 19 goals in all competitions. Full-back Kieran Trippier sealed victory 11 minutes from time as Martin Paterson scored twice for the Terriers on his first return to Turf Moor since leaving Burnley in the summer. Leicester City stay top of the league after a 3-1 win at Millwall.

Derby County slipped to their first home defeat since late September as Wigan’s revival under Uwe Rösler continued. Steve McClaren’s side succumbed to a 68th-minute strike from Jean Beausejour.

Charlie Austin’s goal in injury time secured Queen’s Park Rangers’ first win in four games. Returning after a hamstring injury, he headed in Danny Simpson’s cross to beat Doncaster 2-1 at Loftus Road. 

A 90th-minute equaliser by Johnnie Jackson allowed Charlton to pick up a point at in-form Ipswich, and there was a late leveller from Brighton’s Stephen Ward to deny Bournemouth, while Nottingham Forest were frustrated after conceding an equaliser to Reading’s Stephen Kelly deep into stoppage time.

Former Leeds academy player Tom Cairney brought Blackburn a 2-1 victory at Elland Road. The influential midfielder, on loan from Hull, provided goals for Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede.

Connor Wickham and Chris Maguire propelled Sheffield Wednesday to a 2-0 victory over Blackpool. Barnsley still seek a first win since the return of Danny Wilson after a 1-1 draw at Birmingham.
