After a rare defeat on Saturday, Championship leaders Wolves returned to winning ways by beating Derby 3-0 at Molineux, while Birmingham, in second, won 1-0 at Plymouth.
Wolves wasted little time in bouncing back from losing at QPR, which brought to an end their eight game unbeaten run. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave them the lead in the second minute from the penalty spot after Derby defender Darren Powell was adjudged to have handled in the box. Five minutes before half-time David Edwards made it two with an angled drive and Ebanks-Blake added a third in the second half, his 14th goal of the season.
Lee Carsley's shot from the edge of the area eased Birmingham's nerves after they were very much second-best in the first 45 minutes at Home Park. Steve Thompson's late equaliser earned fourth-placed Burnley a 2-2 draw against Cardiff at Turf Moor.
The bottom two both lost, Nottingham Forest beaten 1-0 at home by Sheffield United for whom Brian Howard scored with a close-range volley, and Charlton going down 2-1 to Coventry at The Valley, Daniel Fox hitting the visitors' winner with a stunning 30-yard free-kick.
