A round-up of Saturday's Championship action

Bournemouth continued their fine start to the Championship season with a second successive victory, a goal by Junior Stanislas sinking Brentford 1-0 at Goldsands stadium.

The 24-year-old converted a cross from fellow substitute Ryan Fraser six minutes after coming off the bench halfway through the second half. “Junior has everything you want in a modern day wide man,” said Eddie Howe, the Cherries’ manager. It made it two wins out of two for his side, after a 4-0 away thrashing of Huddersfield last week meant the sack for the Terriers’ Mark Robins. Nick Proschwitz almost stole a point for busy Brentford when he headed against the crossbar late on.

Ryan on the rebound

A freak goal by the substitute Ryan Hall after 76 minutes gave promoted Rotherham their first win of the season at the expense of last season’s League One winners, Wolves. Hall blocked an attempted clearance and the ball rebounded past the Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Hockaday’s first hurrah

Dave Hockaday is up and running as Leeds United manager, securing his first victory since his surprise appointment when debutant Billy Sharp scored the only goal at home against Middlesbrough. “I’ve been in football 40 years and pressure is my middle name,” Hockaday said. He had to face impatient Leeds owner Massimo Cellino last week after defeat at Millwall. But his call for goals was answered by Sharp in the 87th minute when he tapped in after Boro’s keeper Tomas Mejias parried Michael Tonge’s shot. Boro had a “goal” disallowed.

Another Blackpool blank

Blackpool’s search for points is faring slightly worse than their search for players, a 2-1 home defeat by Blackburn meaning they still have none. Rudy Gestede scored both goals to put Rovers 2-0 ahead by the 47th minute. Even the generosity of Rovers’ Paul Robinson, who let a weak shot from Tomasz Cywka go under him, was not enough to rescue Blackpool.
