Nottingham Forest replaced Bournemouth at the top of the Championship after Stuart Pearce’s side maintained their unbeaten start with a 2-1 win at Dean Court tonight.

Britt Assombalonga followed his double at Bolton on Saturday with the winning goal, as the Cherries were beaten for the first time this season. Callum Wilson put the hosts in front with a close-range finish before the hour mark, before headers from Assombalonga and Matty Fryatt five minutes apart swung the match Forest’s way.

Millwall, who started the evening level on points with Bournemouth as the only other side with a 100 per cent record, required a late equaliser from Magaye Gueye to earn a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, the former Everton striker scoring in the fifth minute of added time. Shaun Williams had missed a penalty for the London side minutes earlier.

Troubled Blackpool lost their fourth match in succession, beaten 2-1 by promoted  Brentford at Bloomfield Road to sink to the bottom of the table. The former Aston Villa forward Nathan Delfouneso put the hosts in front, before goals either side of the interval from Alex Pritchard and Stuart Dallas condemned Blackpool to another defeat.

A long-range effort from Tom Cairney inside the opening minute at Carrow Road was not enough to earn Blackburn Rovers any reward, Norwich City recovering to win 3-1. Lewis Grabban scored twice either side of a superb Bradley Johnson strike.

Late goals from Lloyd Dyer and Gianni Munari helped Watford bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at Norwich with a 2-0 win at Rotherham, while bottom side Huddersfield secured a first league win of the campaign with a 2-1 win at Reading. First-half goals from Jacob Butterfield and Harry Bunn earned victory for the Terriers. Simon Cox scored a consolation for the Royals.
