Championship Round-Up: Saints' away form must improve, says Adkins

The Southampton manager, Nigel Adkins, admitted that his Championship pace-setters must step up their away form after they suffered their second consecutive league defeat on the road, falling 1-0 at Doncaster.

"If we're going to have the aspirations that we want to get promoted this season, we've got to win more games away from home," said Adkins, whose leaders stayed two points clear of fellow losers West Ham despite going down to Billy Sharp's goal on the hour at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"We've got to take it [the loss] on the chin. Fact of the matter is, it's a poor goal we conceded due to a lapse of concentration. But we have to build the players up ready for the next one."

Keith Hill, the Barnsley manager, meanwhile, felt relieved to leave Peterborough with a 4-3 win after his team had relinquished a 3-0 lead.

Peterborough scored three times in six minutes to level the scores on 70 minutes, but striker Craig Davies's 78th-minute goal secured the points for the visitors. Hill said: "I am thrilled to have won and to have played so well for 65 minutes of the game, but finished feeling we had got away with it. But for goalkeeper Luke Steele in the last 25 minutes, we would have lost.

"With a three-goal lead we should have been managing the game better, especially against a side showing the unbelievable creativity of Peterborough," added Hill. "We have to learn not to underestimate opponents, as you can never legislate how teams will come back."
