First Division Coventry City today sacked manager Roland Nilsson and his assistant Jim Smith.

The chairman Mike McGinnity and chief executive Graham Hover made the decision after meeting the pair, claiming the club's performances have been totally unacceptable.

McGinnity said: "We understand the fans' frustration completely in addition to the need for immediate change.

"The board has therefore decided to terminate the contracts of Roland Nilsson and Jim Smith with immediate effect."
