Harry Rednapp 'doesn't like Brazilians', claims Heurelho Gomes, who urges Julio Cesar to quit QPR
The Brazil international has not played a single game for the Hoops this season
Julio Cesar has been urged to quit QPR by his fellow countryman Heurelho Gomes, who claims that Harry Redknapp 'doesn't like' Brazilian players.
Cesar has not played for the Hoops this term, with an operation on a fractured finger hampering his bid to usurp Rob Green as the No 1 at Loftus Road.
Yet his hopes of returning to first team action will not be helped by the presence of the QPR manager either, with Gomes, who lost his starting role under Redknapp when they worked together at Tottenham, claiming the former Spurs boss has an agenda against South American players.
He said: “Julio has to work with someone [Redknapp] who is almost impossible to have his mind changed. I worked with him at Tottenham and I had my share of difficulties, too.
“He doesn’t like South Americans much, Brazilians mainly. He doesn’t care if you’re in Selecao’s [Brazil’s] first XI or not. Julio will keep having problems if he continues at QPR. If he gets any chance to leave, he should do so, in order to get playing time.”
Cesar was linked with a move away in the summer but his salary of £90,000-a-week put off several interested clubs, including Arsenal.
Despite not playing any first-team football this term, Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari still selected Cesar for the friendlies against Honduras and Chile later this month.
But Gomes, who is also looking to leave Tottenham in the new year, believes the former Inter Milan goalkeeper will need to find a new club if he is to guarantee a starting role at the World Cup next summer.
He added: “Coaches have goalkeepers as a high confidence spot and Scolari thinks Julio Cesar has what it takes to go to the World Cup.
“But one should be playing at least from January onwards to get in good shape for the tournament.”
