League One: Last-gasp Green strikes to give Yeovil the blues
Tuesday 27 December 2011
Winger Danny Green struck in the last minute in the top-versus-nearly-bottom clash at Yeovil as form eventually won out, Charlton chalking up a 3-2 win in an enthralling encounter at Huish Park.
But Chris Powell's table-toppers had it far from easy, twice having to come from behind. Danny Holland's goal cancelled out Jonathan Obika's effort before Yeovil went ahead again through Paul Huntington. But Charlton's riposte arrived on the hour mark when striker Yann Kermorgant struck, and then Green intervened, scoring his first goal for the club with an angled strike from the edge of the area.
The Walsall manager, Dean Smith, meanwhile, was pleased after his lowly side surprised high-flying Sheffield Wednesday by scoring two stoppage-time goals to win 2-1 at the Banks's Stadium.
The hosts cancelled out Ryan Lowe's goal for Wednesday when Claude Gnakpa struck from 25-yards in the 90th minute. Emmanuele Smith then hit Walsall's winner to lift them out of the relegation places. Smith said: "The lads played exceptionally well – a really good performance."
MK Dons took advantage of Wednesday's slip by winning 3-0 at Leyton Orient and closed the gap on Gary Megson's side to a point. Jordan Rhodes' 26th goal of the season was enough for Huddersfield to see off bottom club Chesterfield 1-0 and Stevenage won 6-1 at Colchester.
