League round-up: Dyer gives Foxes bite as Eriksson arrives

Sven Goran Eriksson, expected to be named Leicester City manager at an 11am press conference today after last week's sacking of Paulo Sousa, was at the Walkers Stadium to see the Championship strugglers register only their second win of the season. Under caretaker managers Chris Powell and Mike Stowell, Martyn Waghorn, with a strong left-foot finish, Lloyd Dyer and Franck Moussa scored in a 3-1 win over Scunthorpe United that lifted the Foxes off the bottom of the table.

Bristol City now prop up the division after Simeon Jackson scored twice in Norwich City's 3-0 win at Ashton Gate. "A tremendous performance," Canaries satisfied manager Paul Lambert said. They are third, a point behind Cardiff City who welcomed back Craig Bellamy, scorer of the first goal in their 2-1 win at Barnsley. Peter Whittingham again missed a Cardiff penalty, but Seyi Olofinjana spared his blushes with the winner just after the hour as the Bluebirds ended with 10 men when Darcy Blake was booked for a second time.

Marvin Sordell's fifth goal in six games saw Watford, fourth, make it four wins in five unbeaten away games with a 1-0 victory at Sheffield United. Ipswich Town moved up to fifth when Jason Scotland and Tommy Smith scored in the 2-1 defeat of Leeds United, who had former Ipswich midfielder Alex Bruce sent off at 1-1. Another red card, for Burnley's Clark Carlisle at Millwall, left the Clarets to play for 83 minutes with 10 men. Jay Rodriguez headed them into the lead, Scott Barron's first-ever League goal earned the Lions a 1-1 draw. Elsewhere, Reading drew 1-1 at Preston North End, as did Nottingham Forest at Doncaster Rovers, and there were goalless draws for Derby County at Swansea City, and Coventry City at Hull City. Portsmouth won their first point away from Fratton Park after drawing at Middlesbrough, who had Barry Robson sent off after he conceded the penalty, scored by Liam Lawrence, that made it 2-2.

League One

Richard Lambert scored two penalties as Southampton won their South Coast derby with Bournemouth 2-0. Leaders Brighton were held 1-1 at Tranmere.

League Two

Extraordinary results at the Crown Ground and B2net Stadium yesterday. At the former, Accrington Stanley beat Gillingham 7-4, Phil Edwards scoring two penalties for Accies while Gills Mark Bentley also scored two and was sent off. At the Crown, Crewe led 4-1 at half-time at Chesterfield, but lost the second half 4-1 as it ended 5-5.

Scottish Premier

Goals in the last 10 minutes by Rangers substitute Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith, whose Champions' League strike had won the midweek match against Bursaspor, saw the leaders win 2-1 at Hearts, their seventh victory in seven games. Celtic also have a perfect start, Shaun Maloney scoring twice in the 3-1 defeat of Hamilton.
