QPR appoint Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: Dutch manager completes switch from Burton Albion

The former Chelsea striker has enjoyed an impressive start to his management career in England

QPR have confirmed the appointment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new manager.

The former Leeds and Chelsea striker has left his role at Burton, who are currently top of League One, and signed a rolling contract at Loftus Road.

Hasselbaink replaces Chris Ramsey, who was sacked a month ago following Rangers' unconvincing start to the season.

Former Hoops boss Neil Warnock was then appointed interim manager and guided the club to two wins, a draw and a defeat from four games, culminating in Thursday night's 1-0 victory at Reading.

Hasselbaink has enjoyed a hugely impressive start to his managerial career in England, leading Burton to the League Two title in his first season and leaving them challenging for back-to-back promotions.

The 43-year-old Dutchman takes over a Rangers side lying 11th in the Championship following last season's relegation.

He will be joined at the club by assistant manager David Oldfield.

"It was not an easy decision to leave Burton, but when you get the opportunity to come somewhere like QPR, with the club where it is and the squad we have at our disposal, it was something I couldn't turn down," Hasselbaink told the club website.

"I feel that this is a club on the up - it has an exciting feeling about it. And I want to keep that feeling going by taking more positive strides forward.

"I am happy to get the opportunity here at QPR, to lead the QPR family, be at the front of it all, put my stamp on things and take the club forward.

"This is an incredibly proud moment for me and I will give my all to represent the badge of the club."

Director of football Les Ferdinand, who spoke to a dozen candidates for the vacant role, expressed his delight at the appointment.

"We went through a very meticulous recruitment process that generated a lot of excellent candidates," he said.

"We gave ourselves a real selection headache with the high level of candidates we spoke to, but Jimmy was the best of the best, without any doubt.

"We have been hugely impressed by his work at Burton. Having won League Two, he leaves them at the top of League One, which is an incredible achievement."
