The manager of Oldham Athletic, Brian Talbot, was threatened and saw his car badly damaged after a confrontation with Iraqi demonstrators as he passed a polling booth set up for expatriates to vote in yesterday's elections.

Talbot was driving from his flat in Manchester city centre to yesterday's FA Cup tie with Bolton when he passed the polling station on the A62. It is understood that Talbot's car was forced to stop and after a confrontation his car, a green Mercedes, suffered extensive damage. "I was a bit shaken up and my car was damaged and I can't say very much more because I have to speak to the police," he said.
