Andre Schurrle is enjoying life as a World Cup winner, with the Germany international’s latest escapades seeing him walk on water.

Or at least that’s what he was trying to do, as the Chelsea midfielder posted a video on his Instagram account of himself trying his hand at water jet-packing. The 23-year-old shot out of the water in comical fashion, but showed a deft touch with the hand controls to keep himself floating above the surface.

The gadget uses water sucked up from the sea to shoot a jet stream straight down and propel the controller – in this case a 2014 World Cup winner – into the air, giving the image that he is levitating above the ocean.

Schurrle is currently enjoying a holiday with his girlfriend Montana Yorke following his debut season with Chelsea that culminated in the World Cup success in Brazil earlier this month. Having been named on the bench for the final against Argentina, Schurrle was introduced early after Christophe Kramer suffered a concussion, and he went on to deliver the cross for Mario Gotze to head home the injury-time winner to spark mass celebrations both in Brazil and back home in Germany.

He scored three goals during the World Cup campaign, developing a reputation for being Joachim Low’s ‘super-sub’ after he came off the bench to score twice against Brazil in the 7-1 semi-final demolition and the opening goal in the 2-1 second round victory over Algeria.

The attacking midfielder is due to return to Chelsea in the coming weeks, where he will compete with Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and new signing Cesc Fabregas for a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up.
