Arsenal news: Wales manager Chris Coleman criticises Arsene Wenger for Aaron Ramsey risk against Liverpool
The 25-year-old appeared to pull his hamstring at the Emirates and will subsequently miss his country’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova
Wales manager Chris Coleman says he was “surprised” when Aaron Ramsey started Arsenal’s first match of the Premier League season after the Welshman suffered an injury on the opening weekend.
The 25-year-old appeared to pull his hamstring and will miss his country’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova next week in light of Arsene Wenger’s decision to start him in the defeat by Liverpool.
Coleman said: “We all expected Aaron to [miss the match] so I don’t know what happened between then and when he ended up on the pitch.
“Obviously only Arsenal can answer that. If you were looking at that team-sheet, it was a bit of a surprise he started. Aaron said himself [in France] he wasn’t expecting to.”
While Wenger elected to rest Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscienly, the Frenchman risked Ramsey’s fitness and Coleman is none the wiser why the former Cardiff City midfielder received different treatment.
Coleman added: “If you look at Rambo’s physical stats, they’re higher than anybody on the pitch in terms of his high-intensity sprints and the kilometres he covers.

“So I don’t know why he was treated differently. When I’m missing one of my best players, I think anybody would understand my disappointment.”
