Riedl scored in the 85th minute with a 25-yard shot to give TSV a well-deserved victory in front of 69,000 fans in the Olympic Stadium. However, Bayern stayed top of the Bundesliga despite the result, their third defeat in 13 matches this season. They are two points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, who moved into second place after a 2-1 success at Arminia Bielefeld.

The defeat by 1860 was Bayern's first loss in five matches. Their coach, Ottmar Hitzfeld, said: "We were in control for 25 minutes but let ourselves get frustrated by shots hitting the bar. We didn't have any fight at the end. We have to analyse the mistakes."

In Italy's Serie A, Marco Delvecchio scored twice to give title-chasing Roma a 2-0 win over Udinese yesterday. Sebastiano Rossi saved a lastminute Hernan Crespo penalty to ensure Milan beat Parma 2-1 at San Siro and climbed to fifth place. A Zvonimir Boban free-kick gave the home side an early lead but Crespo equalised in the first minute of the second half. Six minutes later Paolo Maldini flicked in what proved to be the winner.

Milan are level on points with their neighbours, Internazionale, who won 1-0 at Reggina with an 88th-minute goal from Alvaro Recoba. Bottom-of-the-table Cagliari are still looking for their first win after surrendering a 2-0 lead in a 3-2 home defeat by Bari, for whom Davide Olivares scored an 85th-minute winner.

In France, Marco Simone scored two goals and made another to lead Monaco to a stylish 4-1 win at Le Havre. Marseilles, under their new coach Bernard Casoni, had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Nancy, for whom the Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino scored twice.

The Spanish League's bottom club, Sevilla, ended their match against Malaga with only eight men on the pitch but managed to hang on for a point in a 0-0 draw on Saturday. Three Sevilla players and one from Malaga were sent off.
