Bridge to state England intentions this week

Wayne Bridge is expected to make an announcement on his England future this week with the player seriously considering retiring from international football because of his rift with former captain John Terry.

The Fabio Capello camp still expect Bridge to turn up for duty when he is selected for the England squad to face Egypt next month and say in private that they have not been told otherwise. But Bridge, 29, is not convinced that he wants to spend any time in the company of Terry after his high-profile affair with Bridge's ex-fiancée Vanessa Perroncel. The Manchester City left-back played his third game back after injury on Saturday after two months out injured and was watched in person by Capello.

The feeling inside the Italian camp is that Bridge did well. Capello's general manager Franco Baldini was at Selhurst Park yesterday to check on Stephen Warnock, the Aston Villa left-back who made a return from injury against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round.

Bridge's future is of great importance because of the injury to Ashley Cole that has required surgery to his fractured left ankle. While Cole believes that he will recover from injury in time to be fit for the World Cup finals in June there is no guarantee that he will do so.
