England v Italy: Raheem Sterling scores a stunner. Until everyone (including the BBC) realised it hadn't gone in
Early drama in the Group D encounter
Minutes into England's World Cup campaign they had again scored a 'ghost goal'.
After evading two challenges Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling smashed the ball into the top corner beyond the reach of Salvatore Sirigu.
It was a goal. The netting bulged. Cheers went up across the nation. The television feed indicated 'GOAL' in the top left corner in place of the score.
But it wasn't. Replays showed the striker had hit in fact hit the side netting.
Coming so soon into the Three Lions' campaign, England fans will be hoping it doesn't turn into the highlight of the tournament.
