Roy Hodgson announced his 23-man England World Cup squad on Monday, as well as his seven stand-by players.

Here are some of the reaction from current and former players on Twitter.

Tottenham defender Kyle Walker - missed out on the squad following a troublesome pelvic injury: "Gutted to miss the World Cup because of my injury. I'm still a few weeks away from being fit so I understand why the gaffer has left me out.

"We're taking a strong group of players to Brazil. All the best boys, I'll be supporting you!"

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick - who only made it onto the stand-by list: "Disappointed to be left out of the squad, World Cups are special and to miss out hurts. Want to wish the boys the very best of luck."

Former England captain and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker: "England's squad: Bags of attacking talent, much unproven but exciting nevertheless, blatantly short defensively through the centre.

Former England goalkeeper and coach Ray Clemence: "Like the look of WC squad...good balance between experience and exciting young players."

Thierry Henry, World Cup winner and a team-mate of Ashley Cole at Arsenal: "Thoughts are with @theRealAC3 (Ashley Cole) Great servant to his national team."

Ben Foster - called up as one of three goalkeepers alongside Joe Hart and Fraser Forster: "Thanks for the nice messages all, huge honour and achievement for me to be involved, something to tell the grandkids about! Can't wait!"

Celtic goalkeeper Forster also Tweeted: "Thank you for all the messages! Delighted to be part of the England World Cup squad."
