Fabio Capello has been given no guarantees that Wayne Rooney will be fit for England's last Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro a week on Friday, with the striker out of Manchester United's Champions League tie with Basel tonight with a hamstring injury.

Capello's assistant Franco Baldini will be at Old Trafford tonight keeping an eye on the progress of Danny Welbeck, who is back in contention after his injury against Arsenal. Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney will miss the Basel game and the Premier League match with Norwich City on Saturday, and the England medical department are still unclear whether he will be fit to be on the flight to Podgorica next week. Chris Smalling is also struggling with a groin injury.

Capello will be in Munich tonight to watch Manchester City.
