Luis Suarez has once again found himself at the centre of a biting furore after Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini accused the Uruguayan striker of sinking his teeth into his shoulder during their World Cup Group D encounter.

It is not the first time that Suarez has been accused of such behaviour, having twice been found guilty of biting in the past. During his time with Ajax, he was banned for seven games for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal.

Having been a figure of controversy during the early stages of his Liverpool career, Suarez was hit with a 10-match ban after he bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a 2-2 meeting last year.

The latest incident is not the first time Suarez has found himself in trouble at the World Cup either.

In 2010, he deliberately hand-balled a shot in the quarter-final victory over Ghana, and shown a straight red card as a result. However, the ensuing penalty which was taken by Asamoah Gyan, skimmed the crossbar before going over, and Uruguay went on to win the match on penalties with Suarez smiling on the sidelines.

Fifa can take retrospective action as the referee did not see a reason to caution the striker, which could rule him out of the second round and beyond should he be found guilty.
