The Argentina team will wear black armbands for tonight's World Cup semi-final with the Netherlands in honour of Alfredo Di Stefano who died earlier this week.

The Argentine born football legend, who made his name guiding Real Madrid to five consecutive European Cups, died on Monday aged 88.

He represented Argentina as well as Spain and Colombia in international football, although never played in a World Cup.

There will also be a minute's silence before kick off in honour of Di Stefano.

The International Football Association (FIFA) along with the Argentine Football Association (AFA), released the information earlier.

"A minute of silence will be held ahead of the match in memory of Di Stefano and a picture of him will be shown on the stadium’s giant screen. Furthermore, Argentina’s national team will wear black armbands," FIFA announced.


Argentina take on the Netherlands at 9pm, with the winner facing Germany in Sunday's final.
