There are some who have questioned his performances on the international stage, but Lionel Messi is answering those critics in the best possible way - with goal after goal.
The Argentine captain has in the past struggled to win the affections of his public, who see him as a product of Barcelona, not one of their own like the street-fighting Carlos Tevez.
However there can be no doubting his commitment to the national side now, with the star striker having scored an incredible 24 goals in his last 23 games for the Albiceleste - including four in the first three games of this World Cup.
In fact Messi remains the only player from Argentina to score in this World Cup, with the side benefiting from a Bosnian own goal in their first game.
Considering he is doing it almost single-handedly at the moment, there can be no more doubting that Messi is giving his all in trying to lead Argentina to World Cup glory once again and gain the one trophy that has so far eluded him.
