Brazil 3-0 Northern Ireland: 12 June 1986
Winning a record 119th cap for Northern Ireland on his 41st birthday, Pat Jennings bowed out of international football in some style in the final group fixture against Brazil.
Before a crowd of more than 50,000 in Guadalajara, a star-studded Brazilian side displayed their superiority from the first whistle, tearing the Northern Ireland defence to pieces. Three goals went past Jennings without reply, two clinical finishes by Careca sandwiching a fine long range effort from Josimar. But despite Brazil's dominance, Jennings, who also became the oldest British player to appear in a World Cup finals tournament, still emerged with his reputation intact, making a series of superb saves. His emotional farewell following the game has lived long in the memory.Reuse content
