Iceland held Cristiano Ronaldo's side but which player shone brightest on Tuesday night?

Nani scored the opening goal after half an hour but Portugal were unable to hold on against tournament debutants Iceland in Saint-Etienne on Tuesday night.

Birkir Bjarnason volleyed an equaliser early in the second half and the Icelanders held on to pick up their first ever finals point.

Cristiano Ronalo endured a furstrating evening but which player scored top marks?

PORTUGAL

Rui Patricio Made a couple of good saves but not overly busy. Rating: 6/10

Vieirinha A mixed game. Linked well with Gomes to help set up goal and was good in attack. However dodgy in defence and error led to Iceland goal. 5

Pepe At fault along with Vieirinha for equaliser but otherwise defended well. 6

Ricardo Carvalho Lack of mobility wasn't exposed and not tested too much. 6

Raphael Guerreiro Not overly tested in defence, but solid if uninspiring enough. 6

Danilo Largely anonymous throughout, particularly in disappointing second half. 6

Joao Mario A slightly disappointing game, didn’t do much of note. Subbed with 15 minutes to go. 6

Joao Moutinho Good in first half, rather anonymous in second and was subbed on 70 minutes. 6

Andre Gomes The pick of Portugal’s players, great run and cut back for goal and often dangerous in attack. 7

Nani Could have scored with header early on, but recovered with calm finish for goal. Very quiet in second half. 6

Cristiano Ronaldo Fairly poor by his standards, missed several excellent chances. 5

ICELAND

Hannes Halldorsson Great save to deny Nani and kept Portugal out on multiple occasions through a combination of luck and skill. 7

Birkir Saevarsson Didn’t get forward much, but helped keep Ronaldo quiet which is no mean feat. 6

Kari Arnason Should check his pocket because he had Cristiano Ronaldo in it for most of the game. Great performance. 8

Ragnar Sigurdsson Solid at the back and helped secure a famous draw. 7

Ari Skulason Solid if unflashy at the back and helped keep Portugal largely at bay. 7

Johann Berg Gudmundsson Provided the cross to set up the equalising goal, after clever cut back. 7

Aron Gunnarsson Part of an Iceland midfield a little overawed in first half but recovered well to get his side back in the game in second half. 7

Gylfi Sigurdsson Nearly gave his side an early lead, perhaps should have, but otherwise had a slightly quiet game. 6

Birkir Bjarnason Scored the equaliser with great run into the area and never stopped running all game. 7

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson Not overly busy, but clever run helped draw defenders to set up goal. 7

Jon Bodvarsson Kept running at Portugal but had a reasonably quiet game. 6
