Laurent Blanc is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain by the end of the week, according to the manager’s agent.

Despite signing a new two-year contract extension in February, the 50-year-old’s spell at the Parc des Princes will come to an end on the back of a second successive domestic treble in which PSG won Ligue 1, the French Cup and the League Cup.

Nasser al-Khelaifi, the club president, called the season a disappointment nonetheless. PSG failed to make it beyond the quarter-finals of the Champions League for a fourth consecutive season after being knocked out of the competition by Manchester City.

Al-Khelaifi had already hinted at the start of the month that he was considering change but Blanc’s agent Jean Pierre Bernès appears to have confirmed it.

“Before the end of the week, PSG and Laurent Blanc will be separated,” he told French radio station Europe 1.

“We’re in discussions with PSG directors and it’s being done in an excellent atmosphere from both sides.

"There's no clause. It's a fixed-term contract of two years that we signed on February 10. Simply put, there are rules that need to be respected to end a contract and PSG are respecting those.”

When asked if he thought Blanc’s departure would be finalised by the end of the week, he replied: “I think so.”

Unai Emery has emerged as the likely successor after resigning from his position at Sevilla last week.

Emery, who has previously managed Valencia, Spartak Moscow and Almeria, led the Spanish side to three back-to-back Europa League titles and reports suggest he has been offered a lucrative deal by the French Champions.

PSG will have to pay off the final two years of Blanc’s contract –reportedly worth around £15m - after what Al-Khelaifi called a “failed” season.
