World Cup 2014: Ross Barkley misses the England team coach on the first day of training causing a traffic jam outside Rio hotel
Everton youngster was 15 minutes late for and the bus almost left him behind
Young England star Ross Barkley was left with egg on his face after missing the team bus for the squad’s first training session in Brazil.
The bus departed without the Everton midfielder but then stopped and waited for almost 15 minutes, causing a huge traffic pile-up outside England’s Golden Tulip hotel on Sao Conrado beach.
Barkley, 20, had to run to get on board, much to the amusement of his England team-mates.
Accompanied by a large military presence that included trucks, a helicopter and even two ambulances, the England coach set off at the agreed 9.45am local time until someone on board realised the youngster wasn’t with them.
The 15-minute delay infuriated locals, who blasted their car horns incessantly and surrounded the coach to see what was causing the jam.
England took part in their first training session at the Urca military base in Rio de Janeiro yesterday.

When the squad finally arrived at the Urca complex they were met by a schoolboy who sang Queen’s ‘We are the Champions’.
The England players, a few of whom looked a bit awkward, clapped politely when he was finished.
An hour-long open training session was heavily guarded by Brazilian military, where a navy gunboat patrolled the waters off the base.
