Roy Hodgson will name his 23-man England squad for Euro 2012 a week today, the FA have confirmed.

At 1pm on May 16, the new England manager will reveal who has made the cut for this summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine, with the most contentious decision being whether to include Chelsea captain John Terry.

It would appear that the former Liverpool boss has opted against naming a provisional squad, even though Uefa do not require the final 23-man list until May 29.

This course of action will give those players selected added focus in the knowledge they are certain to go the this summer's tournament, where England have been grouped with France, Sweden and Ukraine. But it means Hodgson will have to make some major calls, without having had the opportunity to meet up with the players.

Terry has been accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, and with the QPR defender's brother Rio also in the reckoning for an England berth, a decision needs to be made on whether the Chelsea defender is compatible with the squad.

Aside from the Terry issue, there are major question marks over the who will be selected at right-back, with Micah Richards, Glen Johnson, Kyle Walker, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all contenders.

With Wayne Rooney suspended for the first two games, the forward line is far from clear cut. Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is returning to fitness and will provide competition for the other options which include Peter Crouch, Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge, Bobby Zamora and Andy Carroll. England are still lacking a captain.

Hodgson will take his players away to a training camp in Spain on May 21, before his first match in charge, away in Oslo against Norway on May 26.

Hodgson will be able to make alterations to his squad before submitting his final 23-man list to Uefa on May 29.

England will then play Belgium at Wembley on June 2 before their first game of Euro 2012, against France on June 11.
