The Football Association of Ireland has voiced its support for assistant Republic of Ireland manager Roy Keane amid allegations that he was involved in an altercation at the team hotel.
The FAI issued a statement late on Wednesday night after reports circulated after Gardai had been called to the team hotel in Portmarnock earlier in the day.
The statement said: "Following inaccurate media reports which refer to an incident involving a member of the public this evening at the Republic of Ireland team hotel, we wish to clarify that Roy Keane called the Gardai following the incident.
"The manager, Martin O'Neill and the FAI are fully aware of the circumstances surrounding this event, and the Assistant Manager has their full support."

Fortunately, he refused to hold back in his book, written in 2000, which contains everything from barmy tales of stabbing his brother in the back (literally, with a fork) to an impassioned defence of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, which later caused him trouble as manager of Swindon and Sunderland. Key Quote: ‘I am fascinated by Mussolini. I think he was a deeply misunderstood individual. He deceived people. His actions were often vile. But all this was motivated by a higher purpose.’

The most controversial sports autobiographies Paul McGrath – Back from the Brink McGrath’s book, which unflinchingly confronts his difficult childhood, alcoholism and multiple suicide attempts, is one of the most troubling sporting autobiographies ever written. The tales of McGrath’s epic binges – he once woke up in a caravan 15 miles from the team hotel, and would frequently play when drunk – are made all the more shocking by his total lack of glorification. The book ostracized the Irishman from former friends and teammates but forced cycling to finally confront itself –Kimmage would later become one of Lance Armstrong’s fiercest critics. Key Quote: 'It was doping, no mistake about it, but it was only pigeon **** compared to what some of the others were doing. The most controversial sports autobiographies Roy Keane – Keane: The Autobiography Keane has previous on the controversial autobiography front, after his first book landed him in front of an FA tribunal for bringing the sport into disrepute. Mick McCarthy was one of many targeted in Keane’s relentlessly angry tome, but ultimately it was his expletive-ridden admission of deliberate retribution on Alf Inge Haalaand that landed the Irishman in hot water. Key Quote: (On Alf Inge Haaland) ‘I'd waited long enough. I ******* hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you ****. And don't ever stand over me sneering about fake injuries.’
A Garda spokesman confirmed officers received reports of an incident at a hotel in north Dublin. The incident occurred at 3.30pm.
An ambulance was also called to the scene, but it is not clear whether someone was assessed at the hotel or if they required further treatment.
"Gardai are investigating an incident which occurred at a hotel in Portmarnock in the late afternoon," the Garda spokesman said.
Roy Keane recently hit the headlines with the release of his autobiography (Getty Images) No arrest was made and the spokesman said no complaint has been made.
The Ireland squad is due to fly out of Dublin on Thursday afternoon for Glasgow, where they face Scotland in vital Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday evening.
Martin O'Neill's men are currently joint top of Group D after taking seven of the first nine points available to them.
O'Neill and number two Keane celebrated a year in charge of the Ireland team earlier this month.
