Samir Nasri's omission from France's World Cup squad was certainly a surprise decision, and while he took it good grace, the same cannot be said for his girlfriend, Anara Atanes.
In a foul-mouthed Twitter rampage on Tuesday night after hearing the news, Anara launched a scathing attack on coach Didier Deschamps for leaving the Manchester City playmaker out of his squad.
The 26-year-old helped City to a league and cup double this season under Manuel Pellegrini, but Deschamps decided not to pick the former Arsenal man because he could not guarantee him a starting place and "he is not happy on the bench".
This call must have upset Nasri, but his girlfriend took it one step further, writing on Twitter on Tuesday night:
"F*** France and f*** Deschamps! What a s*** manager!"
And to clarify her point, she followed this up by posting:
"Incase u didn't read my tweet properly...I'll repeat myself...f*** France! And f*** Deschamps!"
However, every cloud has a silver lining, with Anara later adding:
To which Nasri replied on the social networking site:
Lets just get this straight! Im not mad i get my bf for 2 months.... I just think theres a level of respect to be had!Anara (@_Anara_) May 13, 2014
"Love you dont get upset life sometimes is unfair but you have to accept it and deal with it."
