Steven Gerrard is England's sole representative in Uefa's 23-man squad of Euro 2012. Spain's Andres Iniesta has been named the player of the tournament.

Spain, the winners, have 10 players in the squad, while apart from Gerrard (above), the England and Liverpool captain, the only other Premier League players are Manchester City's David Silva (Spain) and Mario Balotelli (Italy).

Runners-up Italy also have the veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and the midfielders Daniele De Rossi and Andrea Pirlo in the squad.

Iniesta, who helped Spain to a second successive European Championship triumph in Poland and Ukraine, was named the best player after a string of fine performances. The Barcelona midfielder played a central role in Sunday's 4-0 win over Italy in Kiev, as they became the first country to retain the title.

The former Scotland coach Andy Roxburgh, the head of Uefa's technical group, said: "Andrea Pirlo was magnificent for Italy, Xavi [of Spain] won it last time and could have won it again.

"Xabi Alonso [also of Spain] was magnificent but Iniesta sends a message about creative and incisive football and was superb throughout."
