Terry lone England all-star pick
John Terry is the only England player to make it into the World Cup squad of the tournament. The 23 players, chosen by Fifa's technical study group, includes seven players from Italy and four from the other finalists, France.
The Chelsea defender makes it in even though most commentators believe that his central defensive partner Rio Ferdinand had a more impressive tournament. Only one Brazilian makes it into the MasterCard all-star squad - the Bayern Munich midfielder Ze Roberto.
The Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has brushed aside reports of a possible move to Manchester United. The Milan star has been linked with the Premiership side as his current club faces accusations of wrongdoing in the match-fixing scandal which has tarnished Serie A. Prosecutors have called for Milan, Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio to be relegated.
"I am certain that I will remain at Milan and that I will play in Serie A next season," Gattuso said yesterday. "If this doesn't happen, then I will talk to the club and hope to remain and finish my career at Milan."
The Italy coach Marcello Lippi was also linked with a move to Manchester United in the British press, but Gattuso, who will play in the World Cup final against France tomorrow, said: "The press can write whatever they want."
