Francesco Totti has decided not to appeal against his three-match ban for gross unsporting conduct.

Francesco Totti has decided not to appeal against his three-match ban for gross unsporting conduct.

The Italy midfielder was suspended by Uefa after spitting in the face of the Denmark defender Christian Poulsen during Monday's 0-0 draw.

On Wednesday, a Danish TV station showed footage of the incident and a day later Uefa issued its ruling.

Totti made a public apology to Uefa on Thursday, which was taken into account by the sport's European governing body when deciding their punishment. After viewing video evidence, Uefa ruled that Totti had been guilty of "gross unsporting conduct".

"Having discussed the matter with Totti and the federation, we have decided not to make an appeal," said Totti's lawyer, Giulia Bongiorno."
