The Tottenham winger Alex Pritchard is to pull out of Gareth Southgate's England Under-21s squad, the third major injury since the players arrived in the Czech Republic.

Pritchard, 22, damaged ligaments in his right ankle in a challenge in the game against Sweden on Sunday. He had a scan on the injury today and is expected to return to England for further treatment.

He was on loan at Brentford last season and hopes to break into the Spurs side this season. The plan now is that he can be fit again for the start of the season.

A promising attacker, Pritchard will be replaced in the side to face Italy on Wednesday by Jesse Lingard. John Stones returned to full training today after missing two games with concussion and will play his first game of the tournament against Italy.

Saido Berahino has already returned to England with a knee problem that troubled him before he joined up with the squad.
